“Speed. Faster than fast, quicker than quick. I am Lightning!” But still - even a famous racecar like Lightning McQueen — of Disney-Pixar’s Cars fame — needs to be lifted around on a JCB from time to time, especially when he’s a life-size prop for a new theme park attraction…

After a week of fans drooling over the surpisingly lavish themeing of the otherwise quite simple Cars Race Rally, the very first tests of this new Toon Studio attraction were finally witnessed by guests - its 12 “zany” spinning cars skidding out of control in a Radiator Springs now complete with detailed storefronts, neon lights and even telegraph poles.

With the first wave of new features already underway in the parks, it was time for them to get a sneak peek at what’s still to come…

(1/04/2007 - 09:55) The first official day of the 15th Anniversary Celebration begins under Main Street Station or inside Disney Studio 1 with an early indication of the party about to begin, as Park Guide maps for both parks switch to a new 15th Anniversary design… and one makes its future very public.

Even more from Pixar’s world of Cars has now made the leap from CGI to reality for Cars Race Rally, as the Radiator Springs queue buildings receive paintwork, tiles and extra decorations as if pulled right out of the movie screen. But that’s not all - preparations are now underway for a second, huge rock formation inspired by the film, and Route 66 itself…

It’s a pleasant coincidence that, just one day after the Studio’s 5th birthday, the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf prints a work-in-progress 2008 map of this work-in-progress park. Never before has Disney allowed an unfinished design to be printed, but then never before has Disney wanted to prove so much that this unfinished Studio is really headed somewhere special…

Two grand attraction openings and one long-awaited attraction closure - Walt Disney Studios has never had a happier birthday! As the final closure date for the endlessly disappointing Television Tour is confirmed, Disneyland Resort Paris choses today, the 5th anniversary of the park’s grand opening, to finally announce the opening dates of its first ever brand new attractions.

A mega Toon Studio update now - covering Cars, Crush, Animagique and everything inbetween, courtesy of the latest trip photos (with a few exclusives!) from our friends at Photos Magiques. The fast-progressing Race Rally canyon has become surrounded by strange wooden poles, the land is given even more blue paint and Disney Studio 3 finally loses its yellow.

Lost last week amidst the launch of Disneyland15.com and the never-ending series of revelations from the AGM was an impressive and important milestone for the Toon Studio project, at Cars Race Rally. In just a few days, the entire fleet of 12 spinning-teacup vehicles were installed on their turntables in the miniature canyon of our new Radiator Springs. Grab your fuzzy dice and tree-shaped air freshener, as we preview Pixar’s new 2007 model.

Next in the backstage preview video featured on the new Disneyland15.com is Cars Race Rally, introduced by DLP-Imagineering head Peter McGrath and then shown in concepts, models and real-life. The video gives us our very first look at the design of the 12 spinning cars, as well as some never-before-seen concept art for the très Art Deco entrance building.

We’ve seen visuals, we’ve seen concept art - and now, we can see the real thing. Disneyland Resort Paris has prepared some exciting new backstage photos ready to release to the press in the build-up to the launch of the 15th Anniversary Celebration, and they certainly know how to build some anticipation! Get a closer look at a turtle shell, a backstage look at a life-size Luigi and a brilliant glimpse at two dazzling new Princess dresses.

The final two articles in Le Parisien’s series of five, covering the people working on the 15th Anniversary backstage, first look at the co-ordination of the huge construction project, and then at illuminating the finished attractions. The new Toon Studio attractions at Walt Disney Studios Park continue to develop and gain colour and detail. This week, the first bushy conifer tree for Cars Race Rally was planted next to its iconic wind-sculpted rock, whilst the queue of Crush’s Coaster has now well and truly drowned in palm trees. Oh, and in other news - the opening and soft opening dates have been confirmed!
