Walt Disney Studios Park

When the Imagineers presented Disney Studio 1, they commented that it presents “a Hollywood that only truly exists in our dreams.” The same could have been said for Hollywood Boulevard until recently — a project we’ve watched grow for several months, but never seen a true vision of their plans for. It all had to exist only in our minds, until this exciting new concept art came along…

Would you like to take a stroll around Hollywood Boulevard? You’ll have to wait until 2008 to take a real stroll along this movie set street, but don’t worry — you don’t have to wait so long for our promised photo and video tour of the development, offering a closer look at the effect of the changes, for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to visit Walt Disney Studios Park during these exciting months…

It came out of nowhere in January 2006, but just last month its sequal scored the title of the most watched basic-cable television broadcast in US history with 17.2 million viewers. To call “High School Musical” a phenomenon wouldn’t even come close. And, for Walt Disney Studios Park, the success has provided a blockbuster summer and an extended run for High School Musical On Tour.

Don’t worry, DLRP Today isn’t branching out into stock market reports — at Walt Disney Studios Park, there’s both movie magic in the making and movie magic in the process of being ripped apart. The Hollywood Boulevard project, after several weeks of important but less noticable progress on its façades, suddenly enjoyed a landmark week of changes to its new — and old — landmarks.

If you haven’t already heard, Disney-MGM Studios is now officially no more. For only the third time in their history (following EPCOT Center and Euro Disneyland) Disney are renaming an entire park. Ending years of speculation, Walt Disney World have announced the new name — Disney’s Hollywood Studios — and a package of new additions to relaunch the renamed park. But what does this mean for Paris?

The Hollywood Tower Hotel: Five-star luxury, bright and airy rooms, not to mention a superb location. Good rates available! Yes, even though the Imagineers are trying their hardest to give The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror a dark and forboding facade, they’ve not forgotten those “little details” that “really count”. Not so much tea and coffee facilities, but at least a nice shade of green for the walls…

Hollywood Boulevard’s progress continues to be more than a little unbalanced, the ‘Sweet Success‘ tower still racing ahead whilst the rest of the placemaking remains as bare steel frames. Now, we know that our version of ‘Sweet Success‘ has an extra dome on its roof… but would you believe its walls also already have more detail than the Disney-MGM equivalent? C’est PrefabMagique!

Every time we check-in to The Hollywood Tower Hotel, the derelict Tinseltown landmark seems to have aged another whole year. As it begins to approach its final, 1950s state of neglect, our latest progress report shows letters turned inward, debris turning purple and Tower Hotel Gifts becoming a very presentable new boutique for the Studios.

Missing items at Walt Disney Studios Park are being corrected at an exciting pace this year. Need an attraction with a morning “crush” to rival Big Thunder Mountain? Check. Need a ride for kids as popular as those in Fantasyland? Check. Need a big E-Ticket to get the crowds pouring? Almost-check. But what about a higher class restaurant, and a boutique in Toon Studio? They’ve begun filling those gaps too…

“Hot Dog!“, Mickey must be exclaiming. The financial results for the Third Quarter 2007 are good, aren’t they? No - they’re really good. For a resort which last year published a revenue increase of 4.5% to now be on track for an 11% increase in 2007 is something of a dream for Euro Disney SCA. So, what’s going on? And what could this boost in business mean for the future of Disneyland Resort Paris?

A major update from Tower of Terror : Over recent days, the famous letters of “The Hollywood Tower Hotel” signage have been arriving on the facade of the future attraction section-by-section, ready to finally christen the Tower as it reaches its five month countdown. However, The Twilight Zone has its tricks - the letters may be in place, but they’re all upside-down…

Our previous Hollywood Boulevard update covering its new tower and dome skipped over the milestone of three new steel frame structures — for the two skyscrapers and tunnel — going vertical on the Studios’ new central street. But this development is still progressing fast and, whilst new landmarks have risen, the smallest of Hollywood details elsewhere have already begun the real theming…

In pictures and video. If you’re a regular reader of our partner websites WDSfans.com or magicforum, you’ll have known all about the “Toon Train” - a new piece of streetmosphere for the Studios. But not Toon Studio, mind. This new Summer event might be more Toon-y than Toon Town itself, but infact it’s Front Lot which receives the extra “lights”, “camera” and “musique” from Chip, Dale and their female friend…
