Walt Disney Studios Park

Progress in pictures at Toon Studio

A mega Toon Studio update now - covering Cars, Crush, Animagique and everything inbetween, courtesy of the latest trip photos (with a few exclusives!) from our friends at Photos Magiques. The fast-progressing Race Rally canyon has become surrounded by strange wooden poles, the land is given even more blue paint and Disney Studio 3 finally loses its yellow.

Souvenirs du 13ème étage

Can you believe it, over two months have passed since we last took a look at the construction of Tower of Terror! Visible progress is still fairly minimal on the Tower, though, with most of this saved for the Hollywood Studio placemaking project, but there are still new details to be seen… Including the recently uncovered gift shop annex and an Art Deco touch you won’t have seen in California.

(Re-) Making an entrance

In show business, first impressions are everything. But, after five years of wear of tear, the searchlight-patterned asphalt path leading to the Studios wasn’t quite the gleaming star it once was, and so last month the entire stretch was cordoned off and ripped up for replacement. Not to be outdone, Disneyland Park is also busy re-making its own entrance area ready for the big 15…

That new car smell !

Lost last week amidst the launch of Disneyland15.com and the never-ending series of revelations from the AGM was an impressive and important milestone for the Toon Studio project, at Cars Race Rally. In just a few days, the entire fleet of 12 spinning-teacup vehicles were installed on their turntables in the miniature canyon of our new Radiator Springs. Grab your fuzzy dice and tree-shaped air freshener, as we preview Pixar’s new 2007 model.

Backstage in Bruce’s submarine

The final surprise of Disneyland15.com’s “behind the scenes” anniversary preview is - aside from the mention of Tower of Terror so early - a very first look at the dramatic Sunken Submarine scene from Crush’s Coaster, which will bridge the gap between the “dark ride” and “coaster” sections to enclose the lift hill of this highly anticipated spinning coaster.

Backstage at the Race Rally

Next in the backstage preview video featured on the new Disneyland15.com is Cars Race Rally, introduced by DLP-Imagineering head Peter McGrath and then shown in concepts, models and real-life. The video gives us our very first look at the design of the 12 spinning cars, as well as some never-before-seen concept art for the très Art Deco entrance building.

Lost in CyberSpace

CyberSpace Mountain, the build-your-own-roller-coaster simulator attraction within Walt Disney Television Studios, has closed for good. Taken out of service without notice in late January, the Walt Disney Studios Park post-show feature is now in the process of being removed from the building… and CyberSpace itself - all mention of the attraction on the official website has now vanished.

From 1992 to 2007 - with a hint of Terror

When we first presented the 2007 Resort Map back in November, featuring an updated Walt Disney Studios Park illustration with the new Toon Studio attractions, it couldn’t help but be noticed that a little reserved spot right in the middle of the park was ready and waiting for another new addition. Now, an updated plan is already available, showing off not only the new Tower of Terror but the entire development of the resort since 1992.

Conjuring up astonishment: Toon Studio revealed

Following on from yesterday’s first look at the sculpting of the new Toon Studio Sorcerer Mickey statue, it’s time already for yet another stunning look into the future of Walt Disney Studios Park. Posted on the French Disney Magic Interactive forum earlier this evening before flooding into every corner of Disney cyberspace, this is one concept art that guarantees astonishment - no sorcery required.

Sculpting Sorcerer Mickey!

The latest issue of Disney fan magazine ‘Tales from the Laughing Place’ features an article all about the Toon Studio placemaking project at Walt Disney Studios Park - including an exclusive first look at the brand new Sorcerer Mickey statue! The magazine has previously presented an in-depth article about the creation of CinéMagique, and from the small preview given on its website, this latest Paris-based article looks just as revealing.

Refurbishment round-up

Not to be outdone by its younger sibling, Disneyland Park has also joined the new craze of construction walls in the past weeks, as the park continues to be given extra spit and polish to get it neat ‘n’ pretty for the 15th Anniversary. More repainting and store refurbishments in Main Street, some welcome care for Plaza Gardens and a familiar stage still on Central Plaza…

Casa Della Tires and more from Radiator Springs

From Chicago to LA… and now to Marne-la-Vallée! A whole new audience will be able to get their kicks on ‘66 when Cars Quatre Roues Rallye opens in June, and now the first recognisable locations from Pixar’s Route 66 are visible… from CGI to reality.

Studio 5 fresque brings the EAC to WDS

Way back at the very beginning of December, a small piece of the large mural/fresque covering the front of Crush’s Coaster appeared for one day only. Now, two months later, the final article has arrived! The grey concrete facade of the dark-ride building has been soaked in blue and turquoise, with a full-length fresque featuring Crush and his turtle friends.

Crush’s turtle testing

There have been rumblings for several weeks now that the ride system of Crush’s Coaster has already begun tests, but with only a few turtle shell cars being sent through the attraction each day, it must be like trying to win the lottery getting a snap of one from over “that” fence near Art of Disney Animation. Looks like someone won the jackpot, then…

A new behind-the-magic studio tour

What would it be like to visit a Disney Park under construction? Quite exciting, don’t you think? Well, during “The Year to Live Your Dream” at Disneyland Resort Paris, any dream is possible! Thanks to the Hollywood Studio placemaking project at Walt Disney Studios, it looks like the park just hit a new all-time construction wall record.
