Hollywood Boulevard

At the Studios, preparations for the Toons’ grand opening are starting to be overshadowed by the rising square frames of its second placemaking and expansion project. The entire front of the Tower of Terror is becoming hidden from view, and guessing games continue about the identity of the façades to come… But do the fans have the right answer?

Typical. You wait years for a Tower and then three come along at once! After Paris’ own Hollywood Boulevard was begun with the framework of an ‘Off the Page’ tower recreation, along comes a whole new building framework in just a matter of days. Granted they’re not quite the 183-ft monster of the real Tower behind, but their impressive, towering frames already give hope that this Hollywood might be more than just the expected façade.

Hollywood Boulevard - a boulevard of dreams, so they say. In Paris, nothing more than a lonely steel frame. But every dream must begin somewhere, and for the new Hollywood Boulevard of Walt Disney Studios Park, this first major visible progress is an important step forward, for now we can almost believe the dream is real.

The glitz and glamour of Hollywood is certainly on its way to Walt Disney Studios Park, but there’s a fracture in that smile - a crack in the façade. With just over seven months to go until soft openings begin, The Hollywood Tower Hotel is already losing its shine…

(1/04/2007 - 10:00) Fresh from their premiere peformances and VIP events of the day before, the press assembled bright and early on April 1st for a special conference at Disney’s Hotel New York. (1/04/2007 - 09:55) The first official day of the 15th Anniversary Celebration begins under Main Street Station or inside Disney Studio 1 with an early indication of the party about to begin, as Park Guide maps for both parks switch to a new 15th Anniversary design… and one makes its future very public.

It’s a pleasant coincidence that, just one day after the Studio’s 5th birthday, the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf prints a work-in-progress 2008 map of this work-in-progress park. Never before has Disney allowed an unfinished design to be printed, but then never before has Disney wanted to prove so much that this unfinished Studio is really headed somewhere special…

It was way back in September 2005 that we last saw these large drilling and digging machines around La Terrasse, when the 40ft foundations for the Tower of Terror were dug out. Now, they’re back, and it’s holes for Hollywood! That screwy, ballyhooey Hollywood! Not quite as big, but still impressive for this themeing enhancement project.

What would it be like to visit a Disney Park under construction? Quite exciting, don’t you think? Well, during “The Year to Live Your Dream” at Disneyland Resort Paris, any dream is possible! Thanks to the Hollywood Studio placemaking project at Walt Disney Studios, it looks like the park just hit a new all-time construction wall record.

Did you hear? Of course you did! Hollywood Boulevard is coming to Paris! So, now that the unbelievable news has had chance to sink in - what are we actually getting? Just how much inspiration will the new project take from its two American cousins? Could this be the surprise “pièce de résistance” 5th birthday present the park never even dared ask for?

Hoory for Hollywood - where you’re terrific if you’re even good! But is “good” always good enough? This is where the Imagineers’ placemaking project comes into play. We’ve long heard rumours about Production Courtyard, ‘Hollywood Studio’ and Hollywood Boulevard, but it’s all way off in the future, 2008, right? Well, in true Hollywood fashion, nothing can be predicted…
