Refurbishments

Flying the flag for detail (Part 1)

Disney’s most detailed Magic Kingdom is shining brighter than ever before, as details old and new appear (and reappear) across the park. From Main Street’s returned collection of stars and stripes to the animated three fairies and more - a bumper round-up of all the fresh hidden touches making the park as neat ‘n’ pretty as ever.

Disney Store loses 15 years

The Disney Store is next in line to have its classic 1990s touches stripped from its white, grey and pastel blue storefront. Whilst Disneyland Park celebrates 15 years and magic and looks as good as ever, Disney Village is still going to drastic measures to remove any hint of its ultra-hip ’90s history.

(Re-) Making an entrance

In show business, first impressions are everything. But, after five years of wear of tear, the searchlight-patterned asphalt path leading to the Studios wasn’t quite the gleaming star it once was, and so last month the entire stretch was cordoned off and ripped up for replacement. Not to be outdone, Disneyland Park is also busy re-making its own entrance area ready for the big 15…

Refurbishment round-up

Not to be outdone by its younger sibling, Disneyland Park has also joined the new craze of construction walls in the past weeks, as the park continues to be given extra spit and polish to get it neat ‘n’ pretty for the 15th Anniversary. More repainting and store refurbishments in Main Street, some welcome care for Plaza Gardens and a familiar stage still on Central Plaza…

Resurfacing the red carpet?

Five years on from its opening in 2002, the world of Walt Disney Studios Park is starting to show its age. Luckily, with CinéMagique just out of refurbishment and Flying Carpets Over Agrabah scheduled for an epic clean-up in March, they’re definitely on the case. Next up, at least as far as we can tell, is the crumbling searchlight flooring of the park entrance, always a sore point with refurb-watchers!

Team Mickey’s fashion makeover

After teetering on the edge of a full fashion makeover and name change for almost five years, the Team Mickey store in Disney Village has finally bravely stepped out and into the world of high fashion… Disney Village style! As part of a current drive to bathe the row of stores in electric colours, the sport-themed exterior of the store has finally been given an update. “Extreme Makeover” this ‘aint.

Refurbishment Roundup

The refurbishments of Disneyland will never be complete, as long as there is inclement weather left in that Parisian sky. This is a full round-up of what’s hot in the world of Disneyland’s iconic green construction fences, featuring Disneyland Hotel, the Wishing Well, Storybookland, Thunder Mesa, Front Lot and some rather depressed balloons.

Big Thunder’s big re-opening

It seems just days ago that Big Thunder Mountain, arguably Disneyland Park’s most popular attraction, closed for an epic refurbishment lasting almost two months. Whilst groans were heard across the magic kingdom from guests and fans, the iconic attraction breathed a sigh of relief as it finally got its first lengthy break in over five years, the results of which truly cannot go unnoticed.

Everything’s peachy at the Studios

Forget pumpkin orange - peach is the only colour to celebrate at Walt Disney Studios Park! Eternally left out of the Halloween festivities, the park is retaliating with fresh rounds of peachy-coloured paint across the park. From a very pale magnolia across the back of Tower of Terror to vibrant new yellows in Front Lot, the Pumpkinmen had better watch out!

The big Big Thunder project begins

Big Thunder Mountain’s long-awaited full refurbishment began nine days ago, and already a large part of the attraction has been covered in scaffolding and tarp. Fully-themed signs on the construction walls at the entrance explain the closure to guests and the attraction area has been filled with work equipment, paint and other accessories.

Strikes and SOS signals

It hasn’t been a particular positive news day for the resort today, and it seems to be thanks mainly to one of the resort’s work unions, CFDT EuroDisney. The first piece of interesting news is that the park photographers (the Cast Members who snap guests with characters and relay the images live to the computer servers so they can be called up at the photo boutiques) have taken official strike action against the resort in the hope of receiving what they would believe to be a fairer salary, along with better working conditions and prospects for promotion

A pinker pink for Disneyland Hotel

Disneytheque.com posted a nice wide-angle photo of Disneyland Hotel by Olivier a couple of days ago, that brilliantly shows the latest progress with the hotel’s major refurbishment project. Just taking a quick glance at the hotel, the difference between old (left wing) and new (right wing) stands out immediately.

Everything neat ‘n’ pretty?

The latest calendar of scheduled attraction closures has now been released through both the official website and the resort’s travel and press partners, giving a full listing of refurbishments from September 2006 right through to June 2007. With every effort being put into ensuring both parks look their absolute best in time for the 15th Anniversary year, there are no less than 29 upcoming attraction closures.

Emporium uncovered

On the 28th February 2006, the Emporium at Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A. was packed in a full wrapping of scaffolding and tarp for a major exterior refurbishment. Now, over four months later, here’s the finished result! Thanks to Disneytheque.com for this photo by DJinspace.

Hang onto your hats and glasses…

…’Cause this here will be the longest refurbishment in the wilderness! After many years of neglect in the rough Parisian weather, the ochre peaks of our park’s Big Thunder Mountain are soon due to get their biggest brush-up in the history of the attraction.
