dlrpTV: Lights! Camera! Action!

“Everybody shout, Lights! Camera! Action!” Not any more… production has officially wrapped on Disney Cinema Parade, the Studios’ first and only regular daytime parade. In tribute, dlrpTV takes a look back at this modest yet magical little parade…

It began without fanfare or fuss. First reactions on fan forums called the floats “small” and seemed unsure about the music. But, coming from the Jay Rasulo era of Disneyland Paris that had brought us Disney’s Toon Circus just one year before, Disney Cinema Parade was a truly fresh production.

An artistic flare and a gently-paced soundtrack complemented the classic Disney style of feverish dancing and catchy rhythms that The Wonderful World of Disney Parade presented next door. Wearing identical cinema usher costumes, the cast were mostly set apart only by small features for each unit, such as donkey ears for Pinocchio, carousel horses for Mary Poppins or savannah grass for The Lion King.

Original music by J. Barr set the flickering pace of a film reel passing before your eyes, punctuated by the suddenly frantic parade stops of his “Lights!!! Camera!!! Action!!!” song to convey the hectic buzz of a film set between the relative calm of the scenes themselves.

The first video for our dlrpTV archive is official video footage of the parade, filmed in its’ early days and reecently presented on the current Disneyland Resort Paris souvenir DVD:

Any archive film footage or photos of the parade will forever come with the added advantage (or disadvantage, depending on how you look at it) of giving a look back into the original 2002 Walt Disney Studios Park. A barren place devoid of much character or any colour — beyond a pale yellow, of course.

This second video comes from the DisneyPix fansite and is a real and raw 10 minutes filmed and presented as if you were really there, on the parade route. Dated around 2003, you get to see the parade still fairly intact with the added pedal-along Finding Nemo and the bizarre Jim (of Treasure Planet fame, if that’s possible) face character:

And there we go, that’s a wrap. Cameras at the ready for Spring 2009’s Stars and Motor Cars
