Remember… Rock ‘n’ Roll America?

Every night is Saturday night in Disney Village, it’s the all-American good time. What role do you see yourself playing tonight? City slicker, cowboy, movie star, pop star? Who will you be this evening? You will find a myriad of styles to awaken your imagination at Disney Village, under a starry vault of glittering lights…

It’s sometime in the mid-to-late 90s… You’ve just stepped into the all-American party district of Disney Village after a long day in the Disneyland Paris theme park. Where better to lift your spirits and enjoy a swinging 50s mood than Rock ‘n’ Roll America, the most feel-good venue in town!

As you step through the giant Juke Box entrance doors, you might ask your friends: “Remember… Streets of America Shop?”. In 1992, Disney Village (then Festival Disney) opened with a store at this location, themed to American driving locations…

Streets of America Shop: “Shop American Style” is this shop’s motto. Just a few feet away from New York (where Manhattan skyscrapers, the Brooklyn Bridge and a yellow taxicab house clothes, souvenirs, caps, jewellery and posters) lies New Orleans (where you’ll find jazz-related books, postcards, posters, etc.) and San Fransisco (where fashionable clothing hangs from the Golden Gate Bridge). You can also buy find Cajun food, California wines, books, gifts, etc.

Despite its popularity, it seems the success of Annette’s Diner was too strong for Streets of America Shop, and the rock ‘n’ roll theme was extended across the main avenue to this new bar and restaurant in around 1994.

Outside, Elvis himself greets you with a solo guitar melody. Walking through the jukebox swing doors, you’re greeted by a lively, noisy tribute to all things rock ‘n’ roll. Grab a drink from the bar - there’s beers, spirits and wide range of colourful cocktails - before grabbing a table and soaking up the atmosphere.

Throughout the night, there’s live entertainment on the stage at the back of the venue. Each week there’s a new rock ‘n’ roll band in town, and there’s always bar games and competitions to enjoy. You might even be lucky enough to visit during one of the Summer rock ‘n’ roll festivals, when several bands visit at once and the venue is packed full of eager 50s music fans. The pounding drums, electrifying guitars and totally smooth live vocals take you right back to the real Happy Days.

After all the music and drinks, are you feeling a little hungry? No problem - just head over and order a few items from the restaurant menu. Along with typical 50s fast food like pizzas, you’ll find sandwiches, baked potato with bacon, chicken and cheese, or nachos with sauce.

With your appetite for atmosphere, food and drink fully satisfied, it’s time to head off to the next party, maybe you can cross over a Western barn dance at Billy Bob’s next door?

Rock ‘n’ Roll America closed forever in November 2002, replaced the following year in June 2003 by the Bavarian-themed King Ludwig’s Castle restaurant.
