Variable, we’ve been a couple of times, mainly for the children who enjoy getting their own meals and meeting the characters. The food is ‘ok’ but it’s something of a ‘bun fight’ to actually get your meal. The characters try their best to visit everyone but each time there are children (and parents) following them around – getting in the way – rather than waiting at their table for them.

The decor is excellent and the staff work hard to make it work, but its not the most relaxing place to have a meal. Getting a second drink can take a time as the staff usually look for the new arrivals and wait on them. Getting the bill has the same problem at the end. A good place for the children to see the characters, but not the best.

We had a terrible time here. We booked for 1200 sitting, turned up at 1155 and did not get sat down until 1230. For some unknown reason the CM on the door spent all her time fussing with bits of paper and not talking to the now very long line of customers.

I eventually broke rank and complained about the time it was taking (nicely) only to be told by the now stressed CM that everyone was waiting (oh, incidently, the restaurant was pretty much empty). She had missed the point I was trying to make, so I said to her again that perhaps she should try and sit ALL of us down, rather than playing with bits of paper.

Eventually we got sat down. The food was average (for a buffet). Characters wereOK, but Prince John was playfully hitting people on the head with his robe (which was funny), Unfortunately, he was being a bit to “in-character” and managed to upset a few people at different tables (i.e. they went “ow!” and were rubbing their heads afterwards).

The waiting staff were grumpy and surly. On three occasions I saw the waiters curse a character for being in their way. Hmmm…

The room itself is great – lovely decorations and layout.

Finally, the bill arrived and they managed to muck that up (big time) and they evetually sent over the manager who seemed to be the only person with any intelligence.

In summary, in comparison to the equivalent at Cafe Mickey (character lunch), the Lucky Nuggett pales into insignificance. Most un-Disney like :-( and it pains me to advice people to stay away. Maybe we got them on a bad day….

We did the character lunch at the Lucky Nugget in March, 2006 and couldn’t fault it. Superb choice of starters, main courses and desserts, buffet style and you can have as much of as many different things as you want, great if like me you can never decide which dessert to choose! Hostess was very attentive, lots of characters present and despite the restaurant being full we were visited by all of them. Good fun for the kids and a fabulous meal to boot.
My sons’ now 13 and 8 rank it as their favourite restaurant.
