Went to DLRP for Halloween, arriving Wed 29/10/08 and staying at the New York. First thing we did was make our restaurant reservations with the concierge as we usually do. Chose the Silver Spur for 5.15pm on Friday 31/10/08 so as to enjoy the Halloween Soiree without missing the evenings events. Turned up at 5pm and the restaurant refused to honour our reservation and suggested we came back at 8pm. Only a handful of tables had customers, and I asked to be seated as I believed they should honour the booking which had been made 48 hours earlier, after discussions they wouldn’t budge and said to comeback at 8pm but only if we had tickers for the evenings festivities. As the chances of getting a table anywhere else at that time without a reservation were slim we agreed to return at 8pm.
Arriving at 8pm we had to fight through the hordes to get in and had to wait another 10 mins before been shown to our table. Once seated I asked the waitress if we could have a bottle of wine as a gesture of goodwill for them cancelling our booking. After lengthy discussions we were offered a 10% discount off our meal, but as I have a shareholders club card I get 15% off so refused this offer, which was then changed to 10% discount on top of the 15 so giving a total of 25% discount, deal done.
After getting some drinks for free courtesy of having a dream passport the waitress then said we couldn’t use the shareholders card discount of 15% but had to use the passports for the discount of 10%. I had to point out that all the other restaurants had allowed exactly what they were saying I couldn’t do. After discussions again, I got the drinks and was allowed to use the shareholders card for my discount.
By now the restaurant was full and we had to order. The starters were very good, Santa Fe prawn cocktail and two person combo platter were very nice with generous servings. As for the main course, my son’s main course was very good, but my T bone steak, my wife’s spare ribs and my daughters entrecote steak were very poor quality. The t bone was supposed to be rare but was medium to well done and was more like shoe leather and the fries were cold as well. The entrecote was cooked rare as requested but was cold and riddled with a large piece of gristle, probably making up about a quarter of the steak. The spare ribs were overcooked and cold and tough.
My dish was also missing the sauce and I had to wait another 5 mins for this to arrive as the staff were run off their feet as their were so many customers. My son then had a dessert, as he had ordered the set meal and once again his food was very good but, for myself, wife and daughter we gave the desserts a miss. To get one meal right out of four isn’t acceptable especially for the prices charged, as we paid 71 euros after the 25% discount.
Even the waitress was poor, and bordering on outright rudeness. But the experience of the person on the table next to me was worse than mine, especially when her main course arrived while she was still eating her starter.
I shall not be eating here again, and if anyone asked me if they should then I would have to say no.
Great restaurant – you really feel like you’ve stepped into a wild west saloon!! We have eaten here on two occasions and didn’t need a reservation either time, which suits us just fine – I’m not keen on planning the rides around food reservations and the table service is great. As is the open grill in the centre of the room on a cold day!
There is a good choice of food, either order choices of the menu or have a set meal. Last time I had the 3 course set meal and was VERY full for a reasonable amount of money. Overall a bit more of a special dining experience, better than a quick burger or pizza but cheaper and less time consuming than the more expensive choice of table services restaurants.
Very good theming and great food! Love it! We always visit the Silver Spur when we are in DLRP! Good price for excellent food!
Similar experience to others, great starter and dessert but the main course was rather poor especially against your expectations. Steak so chewy my jaw started to ache, my wife has fish which she felt undercooked. Beautiful building and theming throughout but just needs better food.
Sadly this restaurant didn’t meet my expectations! My first course was fine, then I had steak which was chewy with chips that were not all that hot. Dessert was okay but not outstanding. A big restaurant which when I visited hardly had any diners so lacked atmosphere. I wouldn’t go again from choice. Disappointing.
First class food, atmoshere and service, what more could you want from a restaurant? The price is fair for the standard of food on offer. The mat dishes are great and if you get a seat near the kitchen you can watch the chefs at work. An excellent place for a meal with a good bottle of wine!
I don’t know why exactly, but whenever we want to be sure of a great meal in a great atmosphere and with a delicious wine, we go for this restaurant…
I have never been disappointed with this restaurant before. I must admit that sometimes the waits can be relatively long, but the food is so worth it. It’s also really great to see how they prepare your dish, and that adds to the atmosphere as well…
I’m a big fan of the silver spur!
(Just a nice thing to know: city hall has the same silver spur chandeliers, so check them out :) )
Walked in one lunch with no booking, got setted at once. Great atmosphere, great food, my son loved the whole thing and the Tubleweed grilled lamb chop kebab is to die for. The staff were nice and friendly.
