We first went to this restaurant almost 2 years ago, and ever since we’ve eaten here every trip, and almost every night. Though this is a Bavarian restaurant, they offer a lot of different things. Next to the traditional cuisine like sausages and sauerkraut, they have pastas, burgers, vegetarian dishes and even an Indian-like dish. About six months ago they updated the menu to include these dishes, and the menu is indeed more varied then it was. A lot of the portions sizes grew as well, and some dishes got extra sides like fries or vegetables.
We’ve eaten here probably about 17 times, and of those times about 3 times the service was slow, and one time the quality of food was not as wonderful as it normally was. But all those other times the food was excellent and the service either decent or good. Our plates were cleared all those times, and we left the restaurant satisfied. (and eager for more) You can order different dishes or choose the Ludwigs menu, where you can choose from roughly 3 or 4 starters/main dishes/desserts and combine either a starter + main dish or a main dish + dessert for a set price. (I believe it currently is set at 17,90 euros) The also have a seperate childrens menu from which you can order meals like chicken nuggets with fries and pasta.
The atmopshere of the restaurant is very good, and you don’t feel rushed to leave at all. However at the time most people go to dinner the restaurant can get crowded and can feel close-quartered.
My tips;
It’s advisable to visit this restaurant either some time before park closing or at a later time, since when it’s at the height of dinner time there can be quite a line. But with the great food they serve, it’s imaginable.
Also, when you are in posession of a Passeport Annuel (and therefore get a 10% discount and a free drink) or when it’s very busy, they sometimes have problems calculating the bill, so we always check it twice. However, when they have made a mistake they immediatly go and fix it.
All in all, though like most restaurants it has it’s draw backs, I highly recommend this restaurant. The restaurant setting might be different from most Disney-situated restarants, but the food is absolutely wonderful. This restaurant offers a wide variety of food, and even I as a difficult eater have the choice of quite a few dishes. So thumbs up!
This restaurant really surprised me! And in a good way too!! Since it opened I have always wanted to try this restaurant (every little girl want to be a Princess :p ) and in April 09 my wait was over.
From the outside my overall impression as that it looked like a cheap cardboard cut out excuse for a castle, just a gimmick to get people in to try the ale. But as I walked through the shop into the actual restaurant my jaw dropped, not exactically Le Château de la Belle au Bois Dormant but the theming is wonderful. On both visits (yes we enjoyed it that much we ate here again on our last night before boarding the Eurostar back home) we received excellent and fast service, being seated immediatlly and a great meal. I recommend the stroganoff and the Oktoberfest Chicken
King Ludwig’s is nice for lunch. The decor looks nice and most of the time it’s not so busy so you can enjoy a nice and quiet lunch.
My sister and I especially like the Oktoberfest Chicken, the Ceasar Salad and the Flammenchevre here!!
Loved the theming, the style and decor really were rather impressive.
The beer is great, and I can’t wait for the bar to open!
The food however is the letdown, I had the Schnitzel and my wife had the stroganoff. The presentation left a lot to be desired and there was nothing special about it.
The kids had the sausage which was ok, however there was far too manyh chips.
Overall I would go for the theme, beer and speed. But not the food.
Well, I ate there twice, and it was always delicious! No problem for waiting, but there weren’t that many customers!
We went there on New Year’s Eve and were totally disappointed. Our group existed of 5 adults and 2 kids and we were kinda hungry. My girl friend is a vegetarian and ordered the Veggie Burger. It was served with absolutely no side orders except for two lettuce leafs. I had a steak that tasted like a sole and even the kids were anything but happy with the fries and burgers and no one of our group was really happy at the end. The price-performance ratio is very poor.
The service itself was ok even though we had to wait pretty long for our food to arrive and the waiter managed it somehow to mess up the check at the end and charged us way too much so that we had to calculate all by ourselves.
I can not recommend this restaurant in any way and we have never had such bad food in any restaurant on Disney property before (and after).
We have visited a couple of times and both times we didn’t suffer from the service descibed by other…maybe we were lucky? Our experience is that King Ludvigs is one of the best. Quick service and great food. I can highly recomment the stroganoff. The theming is a little sparse but is fitting for a German castle dining room. The menu is obvioulsy German orientated but we loved it. Again a must visit. Maybe you will be as lucky as us and get great service!!
I really enjoyed this restaurant! Was there in jan 08 and the service was very efficient and friendly. The food was lovely too, unlike most of the stuff you get in the parks. My steak was cooked to perfection and the desserts are to die for. 120 euro for a 3 course meal for 3 adults, including drinks… I’ll be returning on my next visit!
i belive that this is the worst restaurant for good service. My family and I went there last september 07 to the happy hour which they always have done. We got sat outside and waited to be served and nobody came and they could see we was sat there waiting. We sat there for another 20 minutes and still nobody came so in the end we didn’t bother having a drink there. The service was that bad. They weren’t even busy at the time we went either. In the end we went back to the hotel which is newport bay for a drink where the service was much quicker. I couldn’t believe how they kept ignoring us there. They don’t deserve the customers.
If you believe you have been at a place where service is really slow, THINK AGAIN!!! This is probably the worst and slowest service we have ever experienced!!!
It takes ages for someone to bring you a menu, even longer for someone to take your order, but then the good thing is you get a free show… It’s hilarious to see how badly organised they are in brining out drinks! It’s a living nightmare if you’re thirsty and in need of an urgent drink!!!
Personally, I don’t like the food here at all, but some people in my group did. May be because I’m not such a fan of sausages and steak… Too German for me, but I guess there are a lot of people that would like it…
Anyway – for service alone, they should never pass the test, so I’m rating them 4/10 :)
This is a very large restaurant serving a German-centric menu: sausages, steak, and big mugs of beer! The food is tasty, the beer excellent, and there’s usually a good priced set menu. Unfortunately, last time we were there the service was very slow. We could see our food sitting waiting for us, and it took about 5-10 minutes before the waiter brought it over!
Although Ludwig’s is large it still attracts a line for dinner. Try going for lunch, or before the parks close.
