What is this all about? No queue (not surprising). The only thing going for it is the squid attack – apart from this we all agreed as a family that this was the worst feature of our 5 day visit. The biggest con is that you do not end up in any part of the submarine in the dock – even my 6 year old worked that one out! Unless its raining and you need cover avoid it!

I haven’t been on this since I was 6. At that time, I was going through a mischievous phase and had decided to run away from my parents. Somehow, I found my self all alone in the dark, when suddenly I came face-to-face with the giant squid. Now I could happily take on the dragon in the castle, and the Phantom Manor just made me laugh at this age, but that meeting with the squid was the scariest moment of my life, literally! When my mum and dad managed to catch up with me, I was in tears! I haven’t done this since, and I think I’m actually scarred for life, haha!

So just a word of advice; if your children scare easily, make sure you’re there to comfort them when the squid pops in to view!

However, if you don’t want to ride Space Mountain, this is a great way to pass the time whilst waiting for other members of your party to ride SM.

A nice walk-through, but the highlight was the squid attack which took my son by surprised and really scared him.

    Wonderful!

The atmosphere and decor are fantastic. True Victorian style. Usually empty so you can lose yourself in the fantastic Grand Salon and other rooms. This shows truly what Discoveryland set out to be. A land of the great Visionaries, and with the departure of Le Visionarium (sob) and de la terre a la lune this land is creeping towards Tomorrowland. But this keeps the Discoveryland propped open, I would advise reading the book or watching the film beforehand. Perhaps the book would be a good travel read on the way to the park.

If you have time to spend whilst waiting for FastPass, or for fellows to finish rides this is one of the only places in the park that you can feel peaceful – if the whole atmosphere is getting too much to you. I see the film is on channel 4 or 5 (U.K only) this Christmas, so watch it to get an idea of what you’ll encounter.

Thank you, Tim Delaney for designing this masterpiece.

I hope that Discoveryland will one day return to the heights that it achieved 1992-1995.

This is another worth-seeing walk-through. Let your eyes adjust to the gloom before continuing once you’re down the stairs, especially if it’s a bright day.

The meticulous detail and theming is fantastic again, and the giant squid attack is well worth seeing (I don’t quite know how they do it). If you’ve read the book it will mean even more.

    Thumbs up.

Yes, much like the Aladdin walk through, the Swiss Family Treehouse and the Galerie de la Belle au Bois Dormant, this attraction lacks in the thrill department — but last time I checked, not every attraction has to be an E-Ticket. Things like this are atmospheric, filled with details and make for a nice stroll in between the big thrills. They needn’t be anything more.

Disney once created all these things because they thought Europeans were sophisticated enough to enjoy a museum-like experience. I would find it depressing to find out they were wrong.

What sets the Disneyland Park apart from the Walt Disney Studios is not the rides, but the way it delivers in between rides. Say no to Les Mysteres du Nautilus and pave the way for DLP to stoop to its neighbor’s level. Shame shame shame.

A rather dissapointing attraction in my mind.

I must credit the theming. Attention to detail is up to true Disney standard, however it is very boring. Even the giant squid attack is rather dull and leaves you feeling “Is that it?”.

Unless you have an interest in the film i wouldn’t recommend it.

I love the Nautilus so much! Yes, there is not much happening and it is “just” a walkthrough. But the care and detail that went into it is astonishing.

In terms of atmosphere and detail this is easily on par with Phantom Manor and the queue area of Tower Of Terror.

To be honest, I like it that most people find it boring, as because of that it is often possible to be there almost alone inside and enjoy the atmosphere that much more this way.

Oh, and by the way: my kids loved it! I think it helped that I watched “20000 Leagues Under the Sea” with them just before we went there ;)

This left me feeling a little disappointed. The scenery is very good and the atmosphere is dark and dangerous in a good way, but nothing really happened. I was expecting something! This is more of a walk through attraction to look at scenery, but still worth a look. 6/10

    More money saving here.

This could have been an exciting experience, but fails miserably.

It is well themed, but is obviously a ride that was reduced to a ‘walk through’.

Not for children, they get bored quickly.
Maybe for adults killing some time while the kids queue for Space Mountain.
    We will avoid next time.

Well done recreation of Captain Nemo’s submarine from 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. It is very atmospheric but I find it a little dry and dull. There is a giant squid attack halfway through, however it is very low key and a little disappointing for a Disney effort. Luckily this walk-through attraction rarely gets much of a line.

Note that during the quieter months this attraction generally runs on a reduced schedule, and will open later and close earlier than the rest of the park.
