Just got back from our first ever visit to DLP and was interested to see other peoples reactions to this particular ride. We had looked forward to it as Nemo was one of our boys’ fav films (now aged 8 and 6) and the hype around meant we just had to have a go despite the queues. We planned to get in to the Studios as early as we could but didn’t realise they were opening earlier than the advertised time to get people in and queuing already.
I joined a relatively small (about 30 people in front of me) fastpass queue (right out of Studio 1 by Flying Carpets) at 9:40 as we couldn’t even see the end of the actual ride queue already snaking towards Place des Stars! (Wed 27/8) and waited. Fastpasses aren’t issued until the the ride is open and on this particular day 10am came and went. A very jovil Albert came to appease the ever growing fastpass queue explaining that the ride was having technical difficulties and they can’t open the fastpass distribution until the ride is open and by now it had got to stage of “I been waiting this long I’m not giving up now”. Sent hubby to ride flying carpets with the kids and watched the parade emerge from the gates next to the queue – shame the ‘stages’ all faced the other way. Suddenly we were in business had got the coveted 4 passes required for our 11 – 11.30 slot.
We shot off to take in the Tram Tour – fantastic, and made it back just in time to find a small fastpass queue. The waiting time for main queue now stood at 2 hours! A french family rolled up while we were patiently waiting and barged in front. A lady in front pointed out the queue in no uncertain terms and, I kid you not, they totally blanked her and continued to push their way through. What I couldn’t understand at this point is how the cast member standing right there said and did nothing to stop them. However I must add that this is the only time any such rudeness occurred in the 4 days we were there.
A minute later we were ushered to the beginning of the indoor queueing area where hubby was given a bright yellow lanyard to wear as they were monitoring how long it took from that point to getting on the actual ride (about 10 mins). Well, I sat with my 6 year old, who I hasten to add, doesn’t particularly like fast, dark rides as we started our journey on the EAC.
The first part we loved, all the glowing under sea creatures and Nemo etc. and the outdoor portion (at least you could see were you were going/had been), then the surprise of what was a fairly intense, fast ride. Couple that with the dark and disorientating spinning of the car, I could feel my youngest tense with fear. I wasn’t all that happy myself so held his arm and tried to sound as happy as I could about it for his sake. Like most people I had expected this to be a smoother, gentler ride with more to see, but don’t be fooled. It may not go upside down, but when you can’t see a thing and don’t know what’s coming next that doesn’t detract from it from a thrills point of view. I would have enjoyed this a whole lot more if I hadn’t had to worry about son no. 2! Son no. 1 however, loved every minute – forwarned is forarmed!!!
Have fun!
There’s no way around it, the queuing is terrible, as soon as the park opens there was a queue all the way from the ride to the front gates. And the queuing system is no where near big enough to take it so they’ve had to make a ‘make shift’ queue made from ropes which looks messy and gets in the way of the flying carpets.
However the inside of the queuing system is ok, there’s some amusing signs to read, and inside the shore bay is done perfecty with the seaguls on the roof calling ‘MINE MINE!’
The start of the ride is slow and nemo and squirt great you for a matter of seconds, you simply race though the coral and jellyfish scenes, these could have done with being slower. But the next part is very good, you enter the pipe and hear the sharks call ‘fish are friends not food’ leading to a fast blast up the pipe with Bruce learing up the side!
However this is much better if you are in the front seats as you really feel the force of the pressure.
The next part is the best, a spinning, racing ride in the dark with bubble lights up the walls! You don’t know whats coming next and at some points feel like your upside down.
It’s definately not for the faint hearted and one member of my family hated it! But i completely loved it!
Alot of people have complained that alot of the story is missing but the ride IS Crush’s coaster and it’s all about ‘riding the easten Australia current!’ which is, if you remember in the film a fast pace ride!
Just had to ride it again!
Great ride, but not really worth it!
It’s over before you know it plus most of the ride is in the dark so you don’t really see much.
One hour and fifteen minutes wait and then it’s over in two minutes. Was it worth it? – i’m not sure. The ride was fine although a lot of the themeing was missed due to the speed of the ride. The best bit was the outside section which comes at the start of the ride.
Imgine Alton Towers Spinball whizzer but in a dark room with a lot of white lights….if you can;t imagine that then look up the spinball whizzer and if it doesn’t look your cup of tea – don’t go on this – the track layout is identical in places (as are the style of carriage you ride in hmmm….), including a side-on semi LOOP.
My 33 yr old husband and I (28) rode this 3 times and we LOVED IT!!!!! It is now our favourite ride in the whole park and I think because from an adults point of view it is very unexpected! If you love your coasters like we do, then you will LOVE this I have never laughed so much in my life; if however you are not very adventurous/brave/don’t like the dark(it’s not pitch though)/suffer from motion sickness/do not like sudden drops/anything fast/won’t go on Thunder Mountain even (which is way milder IMHO) I could go on….then this is NOT the ride for you.
I don’t like the dark (hands up who’s 28 and afraid of the dark?!) and I didn’t have a problem with the dark part. Within 2 seconds of launching (literally) you get a feel for what the rest of the ride will be like (although by then it’s too late), the bit of the ride you can see from the outside is the first part and it is actually faster than it looks, I now watch this to see peoples expressions as when you understand it makes it funnier to see, my fearless hubby and I were totally taken by suprise would have loved to see us shoot past that bit! After this initial “launch” it goes all calm and neon and nemo-esque and typically themed, very pretty, before going up this long steep tunnel… I joked that usually if you go up as a rule you have to come back down… my hubby laughed and we both said ah it’s meant to be a kids ride after all how bad can it be….? well we were facing backwards in the shell-it is worth noting that it doesn’t matter where you sit, we rode 3 times and it was different each time, it’s about weight distribution. We shared the shell with two smaller “dudes” and we got in forward facing, soon as it started our weight dragged us so we were back facing, second time we were sharing with um large folk so we ended up forward facing despite climbing in facing backwards and third time we shared with a couple who were same build as us and we ended up doing the whole thing sideways…but on the plus side it is like a different experience each time, anyway back to the ride-how bad can it get?
Well we finally reached the summit of this slope and before we knew it we were being sent backwards down a vertical drop (that was a weird feeling-your stomach tells you which way you are going though!) that went on for I reckon a good 15-20ft, i think i yelled oh my god, even hubby made a noise….then that was it, you are swirling and spinning and there are stars everywhere (well bubbles-white dots of light basically) very cool surfer music and all i know is we whizzed about whooped with sheer suprise (especially that half loop for which you either end up facing the floor or the ceiling-really catces you out! it is a vertical semi circle of track!) and we laughed till we cried. We must have looked a right state getting off!
FANTASTIC!
This ride is just fantastic, you just don’t know what to expect first time round, my wife and I including our 21yr daughter tried it out, but bless my wife started it ok but as soon as the ride truly got into motion she froze.
My daughter and I loved every second on it and decided to try it again, yes its a popular ride and the wait drags on but its worth the wait once you get on it.
People though should really read any reviews before trekking to Disney to get feed back on these rides, as I’ve read a few reviews and Nemo didn’t get all thumbs up.
But hey… you have to try it once to make your own judgement up, if you dare!
My eight year old daughter and I went on this ride in November 2007. We queued for just over 90 minutes and I have to say it is the worst ride I have ever been on. We are not really roller coaster fans and as the ride was Nemo based I was shocked how scary it really was.
It starts off ok, but we did not enjoy the roller coaster in the dark bit at all. We both came off feeling very sick and dizzy, as did the other 2 people in our car. I’m sure it is great for roller coaster fans but definitely not for the faint-hearted in my opinion.
I really liked this one. It’s a funny ride, I love the dark ride scenes. The queue is too long, it was a bad idea not to make a fastpass entrance, but when I was there in October, you waited not only an hour, I waited two hours…
But this year i’m looking forward to see it again =)
Awesome ride! The queue time is the only thing bad, and there’s no Fastpass.
Very bad experience. First of all, we have to wait for more than two hours for the first ride. Reason was “technical difficulties” on the ride itself. As we understand, talking with people in the lines, this is pretty common problem.
Marketing for this ride, is much more interesting and relaxing than the ride itself, really is. This was our first ride in the parks, first day of visit, and my wife and 11-old daughter were scared!!! After that, I went to the ride alone, for two times because I was curious, what is the reason why people wait for so long.
Maybe I didn’t understand the thrill, maybe I have problem with the ride. But, I saw a lot of frightened people, girls with tears in the eyes, people with very white faces of fear, after Crush’s. And, as conclusion, I have to say, that there is much better and much funniest rides, rides, as Indiana and Aerosmith.
The main problems are long waiting lines, there is no FASTPASS for the ride, and I don’t like the way how they manage locking in the seat. I felt very unsafe and unsecure with this small brake over my stomach. For us, this was the worst experience of the entire holidays.
You have to get on this early morning or during lunch as the queue quickly gets massive, and there is no fastpass. The ride starts off pretty slow and calm, then suddenly…. whoosh you go flying and spinning around in the dark, so you have NO idea where you are going to turn to next. A excellent ride, and one all the family can enjoy.
This ride is well worth the wait!!!
Its one of those rides that you will never forget!
Sadly the queue is HUGE for this, and they have dismissed the idea of a FASTPASS, so get to the park either first thing in the morning or during lunch.
This ride surprised me- a lot. Spinball Whizzer is a ride at Alton Towers which has the same (or very similar) track layout to Crush’s Coaster, which I very much enjoyed- but this is MUCH better simply because the coaster section is in the dark and you have no idea where your turtle shell will take you- this makes it much more fun and is surprisingly fast.
Thematically, it is not on a par with the other rides in the resort, however it is enough to make it seem as though you are underwater (with bubbles projected all around the track) the dark ride portion of the ride is gorgeous and features some very impressive projection technology and scenery. It is a very fun ride- almost as much as Big Thunder Mountain or Tower of Terror.
However- the ride does look like it was done on the end of a shoestring and the theming could be better, it is a shame that the track is an ‘out of the box’ design, the same as at other parks (though you wouldn’t notice with all the spinning involved and because you can’t see whats going on), and the queue is very long and very boring.
Very nice ride with a lot of action and some entertainment. Could be more theme-based on the film but it’s ok. Long line ups, no fast pass.
This was a fun coaster when we eventually got on it. The wait was horrible (45 minutes in April). I would have skipped this one but our eldest daughter has now reached the magic height that lets her on some of the bigger rides now, and try convincing her she doesn’t want to ride!
It’s quite a fast ride once it eventually gets going. We suffered a breakdown for one of our rides which meant another long wait.
