I love this one.
I rode this 10 times last time I was at disneyland paris.
As the people said below me it is best to ride it in the dark. It’s much more fun although it can be a bit more frightening
In my opinion the best Big Thunder Mountain in any of the Disney parks. Even better in the dark!
This is an amazing ride. Great theming, and good thrill’s. The way that it is themed with Thunder Mesa is great, and it is definitely one of the best rides in the park. The queue is interesting, and there are good views of the mountain itself.
If you are after a thrill, sit at the back, if you aren’t good on roller coasters then sit near the front. It goes quite quickly, and you get some airtime on a couple of the drops. The best part is when you go into the dark tunnel at the end, especially at the back.
The queues are long, so try to go during candleabration, park closing time or during a parade. For an extra thrill, go in the dark.
Overall, a very good ride, one of the best disney rides ever made.
10/10
Just brilliant….dont miss this ride…even better in the dark !. If there are fireworks it is a great place to watch them from as you go around. It can be busy so Fast Pass is well worth it. Also the queue is at its shortest when a parade is on.
Anyone could go on this and will come off with a big grin on their face. We love the atmosphere in Frontierland in general, but this ride is simply the best .
Definitely the best Big Thunder I have ever been to. Putting it in the lake was a great idea. Went in Easter and the queues were short at the end of the day; everyone was watching Candlebration. A must do.
My sons (13) absolute favourite. I think it’s a bit noisy sometimes. Much to see during the ride. Don’t miss this ride!
The finest Mountain at a Disney park I’ve been to. The whole queue, the themeing and the layout of the ride as simply amazing, so watch them hats and glasses, cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!
Big Thunder Mountain is the classic “runaway mine train” ride which has been copied a billion times in parks all around the world.
BTM or “My First Rollercoaster” (as is often the case) is a perfect example of Disney Imagineering. A family-friendly ride within beautifully themed surroundings.
This is most kids first taste of thrill rides (it was mine at Disney World back in 1989) and as such isn’t too fast or scary, but the overall experience is really rewarding.
So how does it rate on the Magic M patented “F Scale”? The Five F’s are…
FEEMING – How well Themed the ride is to its surroundings – the ride “experience”…
FEATURES – How many rollercoaster features the ride has – drops, corkscrews etc…
FAST – Just how mind-bogglingly, earth-shatteringly fast the ride goes…
FEAR – Just how soul-destroyingly, pant-wettingly scary the ride is…
FUN – The over enjoyment of the ride…

FEEMING (Theming)
From the moment you walk into Frontierland you feel you have walked into the set of a western. The sound of light country and western music flows through the streets and the smell of a barbeque wafts around your excited nose! Disney has really gone to town with the authenticity, with rusted mining tools and even horse-tracks in the concrete walkways.
The town of Thunder Mesa is built around the “Thunder Mining Company” and the awesome sight of Thunder Mountain. At Disneyland Paris nothing really looked fake or contrived, you just feel you are walking into another time or place.
The ride itself has all the trapping of a working gold mine – lots of heavy wooden gates everywhere, over-turned carts, barrels and even donkeys! The ride takes you deep into the caves under the river and out and around the mountain itself. You even witness cave-in’s and falling rocks.
The perfect Disney experience.

FEATURES
As I said this is a ride designed with families in mind. I’ve seen kids running scared from the likes of Space Mountain but they alway run to BTM. As such the features are a little “tame”.
BTM has the standard rollercoaster “Peaks and Drops” and “Sharp Corners” but the only other exemplary feature is the “Darkness”.
One of the first sections of the ride is a long, deep and fast ride through the pitch-black tunnels. I believe this is the only Disney Ride that uses total darkness.
Three features means…

FAST
Of all the Disney “Big Five” this is by far the slowest of the rollercoasters.
Naturally the slower speeds mean you can take in more of the beautiful surroundings – buts its just not enough for most adrenaline junkies.
Maybe I’ve just been spoiled by the thrust of the Rock n Rollercoaster?

FEAR
This is a thrill ride by definition but it doesn’t muster up the gut-wrenching fear of its brothers. OK, there are moments when you are SURE that rock is going to land on you – but you don’t come out with the rush of a Space Mountain for example.
One way to boost up the fear factor is to go on this ride AT NIGHT. Not only does the mining town look really pretty but you can’t see what is around the next bend! Go during the Fantillusion Parade – there’s never a queue!

FUN
OK, I may have seemed a little harsh on BTM but you’ll see why I scored this ride so low when I compare it too the other rides. But I’m not knocking BTM at all – its a great fun rollercoaster. And much more than just a “ride in a box” like Crush’s Coaster – its a full on theme park experience.
Also this ride has the almighty FastPass system so you can beat the queues! My Top Tip – get a pass, run to the Phantom Manor, go see the ghosts then your ticket should be ready.
Never, EVER queue for this ride because a “40 minute wait time” quickly becomes 50 for 60 before you know it!

Got to be one of the best rides in the hole of disneyland whenever i go to dlrp i have to go on this ride at last twice i day. I went on this ride once at christmas in the dark and the park was lite up with all the christmas lights it was so amazing and magical i jumped straight back on again.
I could spend every minute of my holiday on this ride. I don’t no how it does it but it’s a ride that gives you…. a tame thrill and so is perfect for the whole family! It is brilliantly themed as is the rest of Frontierland and all the old tools etc. while your queueing are brilliant to see.
You can have long waits sometimes so try to get on early morning or while the parades are on at night (sometimes its less than a ten minute queue and they let you go round again). Bettering this get a fast pass to ensure you aren’t queueing for more than fifteen minutes at any time of the day.
A must ride! 10/10
Ahh… Big Thunder Mountain. Truly one of the best rides I’ve been on in my entire life. Use Fastpass to breeze straight on, but if you’re stuck in the queue don’t fret as the meticulous detail and theming is fascinating.
Once on the ride, be prepared for the first drop as it is one of the most extreme but also one of the most exhilarating. You’ll soon adjust to the breathtaking speed as you fly around tight corners and plunge into pitch-black mine shafts.
I’d say children must be at least 8 (providing they reach the minimum height) to ride. Look out for more props and effects on the ride, especially the bats in the final drop and the moving possum, donkey and goat. Try and ride at least twice to take it all in (I went on five times over six days, no kidding!).
Big Thunder Mountain…
This is one kool ride a must for everyone, My daughter and I went on numerous times during our holiday in 2007. We found it more exciting if you can sit right at the back.
Yes there can be a wait as it is a popular ride and worth the wait, but hey c’mon its DISNEY everyone wants to experience the fun, so basically if you’re a right grump and hate waiting STAY AWAY from the good rides!
This ride really is something “grown ups and children can experience together”.
Try riding it during the day and at night, it’s a completely different experience because you do not see the “lights at the end of the tunnel” and there’s no kind of illumination on the ride.
I think its a ride you can see once, but I wouldn’t wait for it so long again. I waited one hour with fastpass and that’s definitely too long for me, for this ride.
It is very nice for families with smaller people, but not for thrill searching people, like me ;)
Really great ride, Indiana has little better theming, but Big Thunder Mountain ride is pure pleasure. We enjoyed it twice, it was amazing experience.
