Lights, Camera, Tips!

  • Many guests rush right through Disney Studio 1 as if in a blockbuster action movie - don't! Slow down, and enjoy the magic! At Christmas, the neons and tinsel sparkle, the Legends of Hollywood store is one of the best at the resort (ideal for Christmas shopping) and the streetmosphere and live music builds one of the most magical, festive atmospheres to be found through the entire season.
  • Be sure to see at least one of the Christmas Ciné Folies streetmosphere shows. Both hilarious and brilliantly festive, these shows are the heart and soul of the Studios' Hollywood Christmas. The "stars" will always be willing to give autographs!
  • Whether you eat at Restaurant En Coulisse or not, if you see the upstairs seating area open for guests - climb up and have a look! The view over the entire soundstage set is spectacular, and gives a sense of size to the huge building you just don't get from a quick stroll along the street.

Fun Facts

  • The Christmas scenes in the apartment windows above 'Glamor Girl Cosmetics' façade remained in place throughout the whole of 2007, never removed to reveal the regular, moving silhouettes!

Scheduled Entertainment

Throughout the day, the enchanting film set comes alive with special seasonal productions...

Christmas Ciné Folies
  • 2007/08 Performance Schedule TBC

The hapless and hilarious production crews are back in action, making the most of their glorious Hollywood Christmas setting as they make movie magic... or so they hope. You'll see festive musicals, Christmas shopping gone crazy and snowmen in Edelweiss. It's all in a day's work for the talented actors and actresses. Full Guide >>

Edelweiss
  • 2007/08 Performance Schedule TBC

Rustic winter music from the Austrian hills of Edelweiss to warm your heart on those cold Hollywood hills nights. Featuring classics from The Sound of Music and beyond.

The Music

  • The regular music loop of Disney Studio 1, including movie classics such as "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and "Meet Me in St. Louis" in a laid-back jazz/piano style, makes way for a special loop of Christmas songs and movie themes in an uptempo, jazzy style. Bells ring, strings sweep and horns blast to give life to a busy, bustling Hollywood at Christmas-time.
  • Throughout the day on the boulevard, and for the introduction to the Christmas Ciné Folies shows, you'll hear the jazzy, uptempo song "Jolly Holiday". Full of cheese and festive cheer, this number holds special memories for long-time resort visitors, who will remember it as the former theme of Disneyland Park's Tree Lighting ceremonies, pre-2002.

History

  • From the very first year of its opening in 2002, Disney Studio 1 has been the heart of Walt Disney Studios Park's "Hollywood Christmas", lavishly overlaid with countless lights, baubles, tinsel and props. The overlay was so surprisingly lavish to start with (considering the park's modest opening) that it has remained almost entirely unchanged since its first season, the addition of extra props and lights behind the street sets being the most major change.

Atmosphere! Atmosphere!
Picture this... You've just stepped onto a dreamy, nighttime Hollywood Boulevard in the middle of Christmas - all the dazzle of showbiz at the most wonderful time of the year!

Inside Disney Studio 1, Disney's Christmas Season has brought more glitz and glamour to the shoot than ever before, as the entire "Lights! Camera! Hollywood!" filmset has been transformed into a festive "Lights! Camera! Christmas!" production.

The traditional palm trees have been given unique winter coats of twinkling fairy lights, each and every façade has been adorned with sparkling tinsel and customised lights, and countless seasonal productions bring the stage to life with big-name stars and brilliant live music.

Palm Trees & Tinsel

Scene 1: Schwabb's Pharmacy. This legendary writers' hangout has been given some cool green Christmas tree lights and an icy sprinkling of tinsel to its turquoise façade, whilst glowing pine trees are lined up along the rooftop.

Next door at The Brown Derby, the dining place to see and be seen in, electric stars have been added to the red carpet canopy and the pueblo-deco frontage, with giant glistening baubles and glowing yellow lights adding an award-winning gold shimmer to this unforgettable eatery.

Across the boulevard at Shutterbugs, the dark room has been given an added sparkle thanks to hundreds of carefully placed blue and silver baubles on the glass brick front. Next door at Glamour Girl Cosmetics, feminine blue and pink lights glow from above, whilst the apartment building windows show movie set silhouettes of folk preparing for the Holiday season.

The Swankedero, not to be outdone in swank and splendour, has adorned its entrance with hundreds of twinkling fairy lights, covering the canopies like a thick frosting of snow. On the balcony above, swanky silver Christmas trees are decorated with bright white lights and modern decorations. For a more colourful Christmas celebration, head to The Hep Cat Club or Gunga Den next door, whose blue and purple façades have been readied for the festive film shoot with a full layer of customised tinsel and star-shaped illuminations.

Back at The Alexandria Theatre, the stylised Egyptian extravagance of this movie palace has been exaggerated further with pyramid Christmas trees and a full Egyptian mural, made entirely out of baubles, tinsel and festive decorations.

Meanwhile, Hollywood & Vine Five and Dime has had sparkly, red tinsel and trimmings added to all of its geometric Art Deco features, with heavy garlands hanging from the entrance and seasonal window displays.

The Gossip Column, Hollywood's greatest source of murmur and speculation, has been brought into the Christmas production with icy patches of illuminated snow hanging from its roof, which also extend right the way around the canopy of Last Chance Gas.

Image

The Gossip Column is also the host of an extra, small movie backdrop for the 'Edelweiss' musical performances.  Between shoots, however, the rustic bridge and frozen pond is free for festive photo ops!

Finally, the Christmas spirit has even spread all the way to the Polynesian tiki gods of the Liki Tiki, who have donned giant Santa hats in aid of the production.

But the magic doesn't end there - step behind the film facades into Les Légends d'Hollywood boutique or Restaurant En Coulisse and you'll discover a whole other backstage world, where giant illuminations and wacky Christmas props hang from the ceiling to await their time in the spotlight.
