Step into the "Italian" quarter of
Fantasyland and follow Pinocchio on his fantastic adventure across wide,
open seas and through perilous encounters with shady characters.
It all begins with a delightful musical
puppet show, before the temptations of riches and a grand adventure drive
Pinocchio away from Geppetto and into a turbulent journey of misadventure.
With the help of the Blue Fairy, however, Pinocchio learns than honesty is
always the best option, as he finally gets his wish of becoming a real boy!
Fun Facts
Unlike
Blanche-Neige et les Sept Nains
next door, Les Voyages de Pinocchio
makes use of an interesting dark ride track technology to allow the vehicles
to controllably swerve around bends, making the experience more
disorientating and exciting. The
Tokyo and California versions of this attraction were the first Disney
attractions to make use of holographic technology, where the boys turn to
donkeys on Pleasure Island. The attraction also uses an effect often
associated with The Haunted Mansions and
Phantom Manor - Pepper's Ghost
- to depict the Blue Fairy.
History Despite
being planned for Disneyland for many years, the first version of this
attraction, based on Disney's 1940 film, actually opened with Tokyo
Disneyland in April 1983 as 'Pinocchio's Daring Journey'. It was then
finally added to Disneyland in California later that year, before becoming
an opening day attraction at Disneyland Park in Paris.
Back in the 1970s planning stages, it was originally intended for guests to
ride in vehicles shaped like toys from Gepetto's workshop.
The attraction in Paris is a near exact replica of the Disneyland version,
with the same exterior building, the same ride time, and, for the most part,
the same scenes. However, the Paris version features large 6-seater
vehicles compared to California and Tokyo's 4-seater originals. |
